Hello,
While running along a pre-planned route yesterday, my Quest kept doing odd things:
- Shutting off and re-starting with the 'welcome' screen and then the disclaimer (don't touch while moving - 'agree'), before returning to the route I was navigating. Did this 3 times in 2 hours, once when I was trying to thread my way through a busy town.
- I had to put in a couple of unplanned detours due to road works, weather and a fuel stop. I expected it to plot ahead to find a way back onto the planned route but it could not seem to cope and just recommended U-turns all the time.
- On a couple of occasions it just froze and wouldn't update as I rode along.

Is it knack'ed? Does anyone else's do the same?

(Sod's law as usual, I've had it about a year, bought from the GPS Warehouse, I bet the warranty's expired. :( )

Any thoughts appreciated!

That's what happens when the power fluctuates...it's probably just worn or dirty pins in the mount cradle.

Try cleaning them, and the little plates on the back of the quest.....

The other thing you can do is set the quest not to turn off when it loses power..can't remember where in the menu to do that but there are different options for it.

Thanks for the reply Fanum. However it was fully charged and running on battery power (I'm never more than a day away from a recharge so I haven't gone to the expense of a power lead yet).

However if those are symptoms of a power problem, maybe the battery is knack'ed? :nenau
I can't see a way to check the battery other than undoing the screws and seeing what falls out, which I'm sure would invalidate any warranty  . I'll give GPSW a ring and see what they can do.

Cheers again!

Reply, mines been doing something similar. At first I thought it was the car mount but it does the same on the bike. Every 50 mins or so it just cuts out. You can remove it from the harness and press the power button and it springs back into life, so its nothing to do with low battery. I already had the stay-on option on loss of power option set, so I intend to return it for repair.

Andy,

This sounds a bit like to intermittent cradle probs that were occuring some months back. A trawl for this forum may yield some clues.

Loading the latest software into the unit cured the qwerks with my Garmin Quest - I didnt do a hard reset, just loaded latest & greatest software version. I've added Garmins tech support response below:

Thank you for contacting Garmin Europe Support.

I would be happy to help you with this. I would recommend that you try a
HARD RESET of your unit to see if that will resolve the problem. Keep in
mind, a HARD RESET will clear all loaded data, so if you have any waypoints
or routes you wish to save, upload them into MapSource prior to the reset so
that they will be stored.

With the unit switched off, press and hold PAGE + OK + POWER. This will hard
reset the unit so you will loose your saved data.

Please also check that you have the most up to date software loaded to your
unit. Even if you already have this, please can you re-load the latest
software from the following link
