Is The Post-Count In The Sub-Forums Indicative Of The Ratio Of Boxers Owned?

850/1100/1150 has over 17,000 posts. Hex 1200 has over 18,000. WC 1200 has under 4000.

Is that a fair reflection of ownership among Tossers?

My own interest is 1100/1150, so I never go near the 1200 forums - not interested in ever owning one.

Visiting just the 850/1100/1150 forum, a man could easily come to the impression that Tossers think that 1200s aren't "real" GS's, but there's certainly an at least equally-active forum for them as for the older bikes.

You should check out the other forums! The posts are not always dedicated to that particular sub forum and easily full of useful stuff. It a bit blinkered to to just look in one, especially if you're looking for to learn a thing or two. IMHO

And if you've not looked into the beakchat and bollox then you're missing half the fun

You know the guy who invented predictive text died last week. His funfair is on monkey.

I'm guilty of not venturing far from the oilhead section. I'll make an effort and take a look.

I never rode the GS 1100 or 1200 and just went and bought the older 1100. Maybe it's because I'm getting older that I like older things. Is my 1100gs a classic yet ?

Got to remember that the 1100 / 1150 series have been out since Mid 90's Whilst originally not all that popular until Charlie and Ewan the 1150's took off

Then the 1200's out stripped the 1150 sales by miles inside a year (hence having to buy in extra parts from Spurious suppliers and all the quality fuck ups associated therein)

1200 section is always busy, usually post about corrosion or breakdown recovery. Nothing to interest us here :D

But to be fair there was a post about holed pistons and wrong fuel a few weeks back. And then there was the can opener post from Jim which we wouldn't see in here . So it's possible to miss some good stuff if you don't look around.

Interesting, not visited the other sections, I'll have a poke through there, but do spend time in Backchat and Bollox, some fun there, and lots of rants/spats/flounces, more fun than Eastenders :P

I've visited and posted in plenty of the other forums - lots of inneresting stuff to be found.

Like I said, seeing as my interest is the older models, I hadn't bothered with the 1200 forums. I assumed it'd be the same sort of stuff as posted in the earlier model's forum, but related to the 12s - chats about buying guides, paranoia over what's gonna fail next, dissing the other models, how to improve or repair the bikes, etc.

I love my 2000 2.5TD V70. It has electronic trickery, and diagnostics has proved to be a pita on occasion, but it's far easier to DIY-maintain than I gather the later models are. I have no desire to replace it for a newer "better" model, despite that it'll turn 186,000 miles tomorrow. I really wish manufacturers would fuck off with all the trickery on bikes today. Leave the control to the rider. Or at least have it all disable-able or removable without rendering the bike dead or confused. So from what I gather regarding the 1200s, they're simply contra to my preferences.

So where might I find accurate sales numbers (EU & worldwide) for the various models - 1100, 1150, 1150 ADV, 1200 Hex, 1200 WC? I'd expect there to have been much higher sales of the 1200s vs 1100/1150 combined, but how big's the gap? I'll try wiki now.
