i have been looking for a satnav but they are all very expensive. I was hoping to get a Zumo 500 which would have been a cheaper option except that no one has any to sell! Everywhere is out of stock and no idea when or if they will get more. Some places are now advertising the 660 for slightly less than the 550 but its not actually in stock yet as far as I can make out. I'm not really that bothered which one I get. Not sure if the Nuvi 550 would fir the bill because I might actually need to bluetooth and MP3 of the Zumo. one of the places I called for the Zumo 500 also said garmin were going to be putting up their prices (again) soon.

So now I don't know whether to pre-order the 660 and hope it actually turns up soon, or wait in the hope that the 550 will come down in price and risk that it will actually go up!

Is anyone in the know?

Pure guess work, but I doubt that prices of the 550 will drop in the next 6 months or so. Dealers will have re-stocked the 550 at the new $ exchange rate, so their costs will be up. The 660 is only just hitting the streets, so the 550 is likely to remain a current model for a while yet. It will only drop substantially when dealers need to clear remaining stock before it becomes obsolete. Something similar happened with the Quest - I bought one at a knockdown price of £125 some months after the Zumo appeared (at £499), and then bought a Zumo a couple of years later when it had dropped to £330 (that was when the £ was worth $2 :augie).

If you want a satnav now, don't want a 2nd hand unit and so have to lay out lots of dosh for a new one then you're probably better going for the 660.

Hi Tomcat,

I have just ordered a Zumo 550 whitebox recondition unit for £340, i checked today and all the new prices have gone up, if you can get one...

I didnt like the look of the 660 and prefered the chunky look of the 550. I could have got a pre-ordered 660 for £400 from ASK but wanted the 550.
