Hi I have just ordered a 550 . But reading different post people seem to get seperate RAm mounts then the one provided.

Why is that? is the one that comes in the kit not good enough? If so which RAM mount should I get

:help

The one in the box ...

... utilises a 'U' bolt clamp that not everyone finds aesthetically pleasing and therefore try other methods of providing the 'ball' i.e. the 1150 'around the speedo' mount from Migsel.

If you're happy with the 'U' bolt arrangement then fine; I've had one on my partners bike for a while and it's been fine but it does place the GPS on the handlebars.

The actual Zumo cradle and RAM arm are used anyway, even with the majority of alternate mounts.

The mount inside the box does vary slightly between Zumo and TT Rider 2.

RAM-B-309-7 has 1" u-bolt and screws/spacers for handlebars or clutch/clamp bracket fixing.

+

RAM-B-201 (standard 3") or RAM-B-201-A (short 1.75") arm, depend on the gps you'll get one of these in the box.

+

RAM-B-202 round base (in Zumo) shall make way for RAM-B-347 (both match 4 hole AMPS fix pattern) so epxect Zumo and Rider 2 to be same.

These sub parts are now a mount kit RAM-B-178 and RAM-B-178-A (short arm)

There's no one universal bike clamp to suit/fit all bikes, now factor in that the rider then wants to locate/site it differently, so then, there's need to choose another part or custom adapted parts from third parties who'll incorporate the RAM ball as part of their solution.
