Question is, Is there anything wrong with getting a service done before the 6k or annual interval? Just as a check up... I am thinking of putting my bike in for a few checks , as its so far to the dealership i thought might as well get a full service done at the same time... any thoughts why this could be bad?

Only bad for your wallet!

Bad for the wallet!

For those who belive in if it's working ok, don't fcuk with it would disagree.

And if you're having a "6000 mile" service why not have the annual at the same time? Servicing free for the next 6k / 12 months :)

I think the valve timing is out (or something) feels a bit grumbly and revs are misbehaving... almost got 15.5k on, cant wait until 18k... wallet is braced and ready!:bounce1

Narcoda, nothing at all wrong technically doing a service early. As said, it would just cost you extra money in service costs if you did that as a regular habit.

On the other hand why not look upon it as a reason to use the GS, ride it 80 miles to your dealer (with an appointment) go have a nice lunch, do a bit of shopping.... then in the afternoon ride your nicely serviced GS back into those hills... just a thought.

Apart from the expense already mentioned, I can't think of any particular reason not to get it done a little earlier.

Having said that another 2.5k to go does seem to be a bit premature. I usually work on the rule that anything within 1k miles of the scheduled is OK.

It would only be a problem if you forgot the re-schedule the next service then left it a couple of thousand late for that.

Oil,filters, plugs and valve clearances, brakepads and caliper clean - do them yourself and save a packet. Get B*W to do the throttle balance and diagnostics, plus brake fluid change, and they will still stamp your book.
