I know the early ones were Desert Yellow I built the first one out of the crate here and it was that colour

Now My Mind may be playing tricks (May be I'm thinking of 1150GS were there was Mandarin and Sonnengelb Sunny Yellow) but was there a "Pale Yellow colour also released in the 1200s????

:pullface :pullface :pullface

There was an orange colour available after 2008 and you could get the Adv model sometime after 2008 in a yellow colour but I don't recall any other yellows that the 1200 came in.

my 11 GSA is Shine Yellow Metallic.

you've got to catch the light just right to see the metallic element though. i've only seen it once :eek

Paintman when I was painting it was all 2 pack how easy would it be to recolour from say red to the desert yellow using the modern crap??

Are the primers water based too now? Jag were the only ones experimenting with ICI 2000 when I changed from working at Brown Brothers Belfast (who are no more) to Serck Marston as a Manager

Compared to the old ICI P565-0761 extrafiller with medium fast activator the modern stuff is complete KEEK! LOL

You can paint your panels in waterborne paint, two pack, even cellulose, good suppliers like,

http://www.mkpe.co.uk/

still stock all the systems so that classic bikes and cars can be painted as they were originally.
Water primers are available but most people I know prefer 2 pk primers or quality hi build 1k rattle cans.

Hmmm They are bit strange here!
Quite reluctant to sell 2K unless it's in a specific age and for cellulose ???

Dear Gawd you used to need yer Gran and Granda and a signed letter from the bank before they let you play with that badass schit! :aidan

I pity any poor fecker doing that 3 stage blue pearl on the Escorts and Orions using that new stuff Yeugh! LOL

The adv yellow is a different colour to desert yellow, my 2006 adv is desert yellow and put next to a post 2008 yellow adv they are different the newer yellow is more sickly.

Really? I've found it impossible so far to get any details of the paint thet is used on the rocker box covers of my 2009 1200GS. BMW dont supply either touch up paint or paint codes that anyone can match to. Any suggestions?

Have a little ride to your local car paint suppliers (not Halfords, someone that supplies bodyshops) and ask them to colour match your covers.
This can be done in two ways, by searching colour chips for a match or some companies use a spectrometer, don't worry what the matching paint is called i.e. Dacia Duster grey :D if it matches it will be fine.

P.S. A helpful bodyshop may be able to help with this as well.

have done that and got a match of sorts - a Hyundai colour as it happens. So now I need to clean up the covers, fill and prime, spray with colour and then with two part matt lacquer.

any advice?
