Reliving bike trips whilst sat at my desk....
Being a tight-@rse, I recently spotted a cheap perol station, so I nicked the girlfriend's car (her petrol, see?) and nipped back there with my two army jerry cans, and a halfords 5 litre jobby. I have been filling up every night on my CB1 honda, and today I tipped the rest into the GS. As I did so, I noticed what looked briefly like a small stone about 5mm across go weeeee down the funnel into my GS tank!! :spitfire

So, what does this mean? Is it just going to sit there in a corner and never bother anyone? Is it going to be kept in check by the fuel filter? Or is the filter after the pump, in which case I have to drain the tank to get it out before it fecks the fuel pump?

Help!!

PS, I ironically planned to ride it to work tomorrow. :(

Going by the amount of fuel that lies in the lobes, even after the bike has "run out", I would think that any object that size would sink to the bottom and rattle.

There is a gauze filter over the fuel pump pick-up. So don't worry about it.

The stone will only rub through your tank over a period of time

Warthog,

Is Steptoe serious or is he winding you up

Will you be able to sleep tonight, without imagining this Boulder fretting first through the plating :eek then through the steel  Then out through the paint . :spitfire

Tank off it is then :dabone

Or you could just leave it, and see it pop out somewhere in the deepest Rainforest :nono

The REAL worry is the gauze filter getting choked up with all the rust dislodged by the stone......

......Or the stone wearing a hole in the gauze, and the fuel filter getting all clogged up.......

......Or the stone wearing a hole in the gauze, and the fuel filter getting all clogged up.......then the fuel pump seizing up.................

.............at speed.............

......Or the stone wearing a hole in the gauze, and the fuel filter getting all clogged up.......then the fuel pump seizing up.................but not before the injectors have become completely blocked with rust particles......

To say nothing of valve stem erosion caused those particles that got through the injectors before they clogged up............

Which pales into insignificance compared to the cylinder bore wear due to the grinding paste effect of the particles held in suspension by the oil on the cylinder bores.................

Heh heh heh heh

Nah......don`t worry about it.....it`ll be ok.......really.

Guy I shared an office with did that to his 'Blade.

Less than a week later, someone keyed the side of his Merc, and his dog crapped on the back seat.

Let that be a warning to you.

Really? Wow! Thanks for the head's up. I'll cancel my order for an A class first thing in the morning!....And I'll sell the dog....

when I changed the fuel filter recently I found one of the alen key fuel cap bolts in the tank. The previous owner dropped it in there when making the hole in the neck mod :clap

Hadn't done any harm as far as I could tell.... but reading some of the above posts i'm not so sure now  :D

Hi, :thumb

Trust your fellow GSers to help you out and to absolutely restore your peace of mind over this important mechanical issue.
Nothing else for it then . Get the tank off......

:nenau :nenau :nenau :nenau :nenau

I often find shopping trolleys and old bed frames in peoples tanks when i change the fuel filter.

You sure it was a stone and not a seed, you could have a Triffid growing out of your filler cap in a couple of weeks
