hewett pachard omnibook 2100
intel pemtium 2
4 gb harddrive
96mb ram
cd rom
floppy drive
infra red
sound
usb
windows office 2000pro
price £299

That is a very old spec machine and £299 is quite a high price for such a beast even if it is a laptop. If you don't actually need a laptop then consider a desktop machine. You can get a much much more up to date system probably 4 times the speed with a 10 times bigger disk for probably only £100 more.

Regards,

Mike

Blimey I threw something away with a greater spec than that. As BigNige might say they're 'aving a giraffe!!'

You'll quickly find that 4 Gb is a pretty small hard disk. At present, I wouldn't buy a new PC with less than 40Gb, and probably push to buy one with 80Gb.

Although you can get adaptors, a single USB port would quickly become limiting as most gizmos use them these days.

Batteries on laptops become shagged after a couple of years and most are around £100 to replace. Laptops aren't as user-friendly as a proper desk PC, so unless portability is essential, slip into a High Street store and see what you can buy new for just a few quick more.

something like this with a cheap copy of windows XP would do most things cheaply.

Thanks all,
you have just saved me £300 im getting the impression this is a bit of DOG of the computer world. As I said I hav'nt a clue about these things thanks again for all your help.

It's far from a dog, in fact only three or four years ago it was the dog's danglies and probably cost its then owner the thick end of £2k. But stuff is moving on so fast, and prices coming down so quickly, it's hard to know when and where to plunge in.
