Now take a look at this footbridge. On the 26th of September 1946, the river level was to the top of that white sign below the railings...

Looks can be deceiving! Although you can see the road under the water, the river is running very fast and moves on into deeper water quite quickly. This poor woman died a few years ago from trying to drive through this actual ford!

That looks like Neen sollars to me DD, am I right or am I right ???

Used to play there when I was a kid. :thumb

Strange how the floods were so bad in 1946.

Thats way before global warming was an issue.

Not many people drove cars, not many planes, and everybodies CO2 footprint was much lower than now !!

My friend who lives next to the Teme, and is flooded out again at the moment, has the markings of the floods in his house.

1947,1924 and 17** something or other. We think the 17** flood was due to the big V8 engines that had just been invented, and everyone was using. They put them away after the flood, and then brought them out again in 1923,hence the big flood in 1924.

Not a people know that

PS Beer might have been involved in our reaching of this conclusion

Ive got a couple of part worn TKC80 for you mush. I'll drop em over when it stops raining. F==king things are clogging up the garidge. Or, as we say in suckley gararje

:beerjug:

And it was the V12 in 1947 just keep on topic

nice one Vern

the floods of '47 can't happen again as we don't get any snow now

This 'global warming' stuff has been blown out of proportion. I'm in no doubt that we're feckin up the planet, BUT, severe floods, extreme summer heat and extreme cold winters have always shown up every few thousand years for the past few million years!

Just another damn good excuse to further tax the bollox of us IMO...

+1 on the wise words from DD.

There are facts......And there are theories.

The FACTS are that northern europe has had several ice ages; and that the Romans were growing grapes up near Hadrians Wall 2,000 years ago.

Those FACTS tell me that weather is pretty extreme.

The THEORIES put forward by the various scientists are just that - THEORIES.

Regretably, the politicos have fallen for this greener-than-thou claptrap and that nasty piece of work called G Brown is using it as an excuse to tax the gonads off people. That taxation might garner some support if the monies raised were seen to be ringfenced and actually used to combat the theoretical reason for their existence. Instead they go into the pot to be p!ssed up the wall supporting the pregnant paraplegic Polish prositutes of Peckham. :spitfire

Where's Peckham :o

DD, you better be careful. Talk like that will have you kicked out of the woods by the pixies and goblins (or are they all extinct now due to global warming???).

Interesting fact is that the trees cut down in the deforestation of the rain forests every year remove the equivalent CO2 emissions of every flight ever taken since it was invented  So I make myself clear, that is the removal, every year, of enough trees to clean (in a twelve month period) the CO2 emissions of every flight ever taken.

Stop the deforestation and things would be far far better. Millions of acres are cut down every year for agriculture, yet we have mountains of food.

Global warming......., like DD I do believe that bit by bit we a ruining this world, but it's industry and governments. My annual carbon footprint could have been sucked up by the trees that have been chopped down in the time it took to write the first sentance of this post.

So, with also this pie eating that you're involved in Bernie, you're telling me that you have a very insignificant carbon footprint on our beautiful planet...

I do love trees and I strongly oppose them being cut down. That's why I chose laminate over timber in my living room...:D

Carbon footprint and actual footprint are different love, that's your mistake.

I fart alot, but not as much as a moo cow, they're methane mungous
