Its *heads up* if you want 2650 ?

Quest or Quest2 ???

The 2650 takes memory cards, so you can put a lot of maps in it (if you buy a big card, or have maps loaded on different cards and swap as you drive... very good feature) It looks like the Quest 2 has full maps included, Quest only has 115 mb memory... not enough for long Europe trips worth of maps IMHO... so you need a laptop along to transfer maps)

The screen on the 2650 is bigger (always good) Perhaps brighter?? (always good)

the 2650 does not do custom POI's (speed cameras.... a very good thing to have) (neither does the Quest1)

and doesn't have an internal battery... which is useful if you want to use it for navigation while walking around in a city, riding in a friends car, or transferring data to it from a computer in a hotel room, and you forgot your power cable (happened to me twice with my 2820... had to wait for the rain to stop and do it on the bike)

The dead reconing feature would be a cool thing to have if you are in tall cities or tunnels a lot, but expensive me thinks.. (the bit to add to your car needs to be installed by a shop?)

I have the Quest 1 and I've got it fitted nicely on my F650 Dakar in a TT lockable cradle mounted on a bar I had to knock up so I could fit it above the clocks.
If I buy this 2650 I will them have to buy a new cradle and knock up a new mounting bar.
Also, I don't have a PC, I have an old Mac so I've never used the Garmin in conjunction with a computer and thus not utilised the full capability with Mapsource etc. so I'd have the same difficulty and reduced functionality with the 2650.
And I can't really afford it right now.

Could'nt make my mind up last night, but then decided to have one this morning.

Well at that price, silly not to really.

But yes, this morning it did say that there was no stock left, but it still accepted my payment though. :nenau

Will give them a call on Monday to see what the score is, if no stock then I will cancel the order.:(

"Could'nt make my mind up last night, but then decided to have one this morning"

Ditto. I didn't see any mention it was out of stock, and it took the order. If they have sold out I'll just persevere with the Quest, but Addo Domini is making the screen harder to read. :rob

Al...

Apparently it will do POI's of interest if you download the data to it...

Extract from GPSwarehouse site:

* Must have downloaded MapSource data to "find" points of interest and addresses.

So i take it from this it will do POI's, you just have to tell it where they are
first? :o

POI functionality used for speed camera functionality is different... Garmin map data has points of interest in it, but the unit will not give proximity warnings for more than one point at a time for most units... not at all for many... You can still search for the nearest petrol station or donut shop though...

The new terminology for "POI functionality" is another set of POI's (they can be much like the Garmin Map data ones, and often are... I have a lot of campgrounds in Europe loaded in my 2820 along with the speed cameras) But the GPS gives a warning when approaching these POI's... (and they are searcheable in a simular way to the ones that come with the Garmin Map data...

You had heads ups and there was a limited few , so there will be some who miss out. Its unfortunate, I only wish there were more :nenau but alas not.

There maybe (stress word 'maybe') some 2620's (2610 with hard drive) but these have been deemed unsuitable for two wheels  joyseekers.

Rang GPS Warehouse at 9:00 hrs, to see if my order was succesful, given the fact that my payment has been accepted, according to the automated e-mail.

I was told that system was not booted up yet, so not able to tell me, ring back in 1/2hr? Fair enough I suppose.

Rang back 1/2 later, yes they can see that I have placed an order, but cannot tell if I have one or not:nenau

Then mentioned the fact that I have a e-mail that confirms my order and that payment was succesful.

Told that it does not make any differance....WTF?

Then told the best thing to do was to call back again later, good customer service or what?:spitfire

Demand was high .. but offer was limited which was stressed at the outset.

Some were lucky, others not.

AFAIK.. Bryn, Tim and Aidan have there's plus some other names that I do not know/recognise.

There's an equal number that will be dissapointed, such was the demand.

The link is now closed.

I have just had an e-mail from Katie telling me that I have secured a 2650. :bounce1

I had ordered a Quest bundle just before lunch on Friday and upon seeing this thread had emailed GPSW to enquire if I could change my order. Luckily, it was successful.

Thanks RAM-man :bow , you have made a happy man very old. :rob :) That's a large drink I owe you when we eventually cross paths. :beerjug:  :thumb2
