.........(silver 1150gsa) that is, have had my dakar for about 18 months now (first big bike) so do I or don't I upgrade to the bike of my dreams? Some advice from all of you out there would be great.:beerjug:

Thanks in advance. Tom:thumb

Go ride one - it's a v different bike to the Dakar and there are some things you won't be able to do with it, and some that you couldn't do with the Dakar. So it depends on what you want.

So, go try it - if you like it, then as the others have said - JFDI! :thumb2

Good advice

That's good advice, the only way to really know if it is the bike for you is to have a go on one. Had mine for 5 years and absolutely loved it. They are heavy at a standstill, have limited off road ability and a v clunky gearbox which requires technique to master. That said, the feeling of presence and power you have sat astride one is worth any 'charicteristics' you have to cope with. A truely great bike, and if after getting a go on one you are smitten, just do it, you only live once..:thumb2

i agree... Go have a go on one... :D

I tried out the 1200 and was smitten...

you must ride both bikes before you buy.....I did and settled on the 1150GSA however if I had the cash would like the 1200 as well. greedy sod that's me :thumb

I had the 650gs as well and want more power. Wife always along for the ride. Looked at the 1200 and thought "Damn thats big", The wife said get it, I did. I feel better on the 1200 than I did on the 650. Can do ticky turns at slow speed, well hardly moving. Love it and enjoy it.:clap

Just to be contraversial I went the other way :D:D:D

Loved my 1150 but the dakar is soooooooo much more on tight twisty lanes IMO.

1150 is better than the 650 at touring................so I bought an 1150 RT for that job which is tons better than the GS.

I have the best of both worlds :thumb

try and get one, lifes tooo short !

oh and get a rare silver touratech desierto fairing on it:D

maybe keep the dak as well?:augie

Tom - I've just bought an R1150GS - they are not as inimidating as their reputation, yes it's heavy but so are most big bike are 200kg +, tall ? - I'm 29" inside leg and can get both feet fat on the floor - comfy ? - so far (europe in June)

Go for it !

great community:beerjug::thumb2 but you know that already:rolleyes:

They (1150's) inspire confidence, I feel that they have a more planted feeling than my old blackbird.

I havent ridden a 650 so cant comment on them, but I wouldnt swop my 1150:thumb
