now that the knackered Michy Exaltos are history and the Vredestein Snowtracs are fitted.

The Exs had so little grip on snow, slush etc. that I could barely get moving on the flat. I think most of the available grip was the wear bars biting. The Snacs are a big improvement. At £77.40 each they were les 36% cheaper than the Exs as well.

I had a near miss this morning when a stupit wummin in an old Isuzu 4x4 skidded straght out on tae the main road in front of me. A few minutes later she came in to the shop and told every body that it was so cold that her brakes had frozen solid and were not working.

Priceless. Just as bad as all the sheep still following each other with barely a second of separation:blast
 
Just think, anyone under 40 won't have driven in these conditions, others have no training but think they can drive on this stuff.

And almost all drivers are so used to front wheel drive they haven't a clue.

I drive rear wheel drive hearses and limos in this without trancition control and they are great fun.
 
Max revs in low gear

Seems to be the techique. Watched a Scottish Gas driver drive away from rest that way and then all the way up the road. Presumably he reckoned the friction would melt the snow! And of course, it aint his engine he's wrecking.
 
I am out twice a day, driving along the back farm roads to attend to my daughters' horses ( :blast ). I find my old 3 litre, LWB Toyota Land Cruiser to be excellent.

Permanent four-wheel drive, high ratio and with the centre diff locked on the bad stuff it has no problems. I give everyone plenty of room, try never to touch the brakes and just drive on the engine and gearbox.

The back roads are now covered in deep frozen snow with three polished tracks (yup . . work that out :D ) its like a bobsleigh course and the smaller cars get trapped in the deep slippery ruts. Pulling out of the ruts onto the side of the road is no problem in the Land Crusher :thumb

Of course . . . I have been using 4x4s in rough terrain for a good many years, know how the transmission systems work and when to use the features and so have a good idea of what I'm doing :D

Ah, but do the BBC get their weather data from the same Meteorological Office that promised us a "Barbeque Summer" and a "mild winter".

Summer was onee of the worst I can remember and the figures ar estarting to suggest the coldest winter in almost 100 years.

Keep the Toyo in 4 wheeel drive Bob.:D and +1 on the "no brakes, use the engine and gearbox"
