Japanese Classics

Hi Sidestand. I had a brand spanker GT500 in 1977 on a R plate. Superb bike. Loved the pulling power of that big 2 stroke. Wish I still had mine. Always wonder if it is still on the road somewhere?

My older brother had one for a while, I remember touring with him, me on a Honda CB250 G5, he use to get 35mph on a good day, cracking touring bike apart from that.

I sold this last weekend to pay for an engine rebuild on my GS......

Just convinced SWMBO that a GPz900 would be a better investment than an ISA account. :D:augie:clap

Usual story, fancied one when they were first released but couldn't raised the necessary pennies.

Time to start doing some homework and searching.

Kneeslider916, what sort of mileage did your GPZ have and if you don't mind me asking, what sort of money did you let it go for?

Kaycee

PS Oops just noticed yours was a 750

first bike i ever owned that

purchase in 1971 when i was around 17 or 18. came from HGB's in Harrow. paid £249 for it, and it was about 2 years old. same sort of colour. pxed a bent Vespa SS180 for it.

well that bringing back loads of memories. :thumb

1st bike i ever owned! one of them.

Bought a 1969 Yamaha DS6 a few years ago- it was in pieces (several of them missing) but the engine had been fully rebuilt..... in 1979. There are a handful of them in this country as they were only made for 18 months before the YDS7 250 and YR5 350 were brought out. I have only ever seen one other- that was at Stafford show a couple of years ago that was restored by Classic Bike mechanics- that one wasn't complete and didn't run.

This is what my project should look like.....

Was at the Stafford show last weekend and what did Mrs Haydw spot? a complete YDS6 just imported from America. The chromework on it is in excellent order for its age, and it even ran, even though it was last on the road in 1982!!!

After a bit of haggling, it was transported home in the back of a Ford Galaxy and is now sitting in my dining room. For some reason it hasn't leaked any fluid all week, but woke up yesterday morning to find the house stinking of fuel and a puddle on the dining room floor.

Still, have all the parts for my project to make a mint one and enough bits to make a rough one. Not decided yet what to do with the rough one, sell as a project or for bits. The engine is the same as a Yamaha TD2 race bike from the same era and those bits are now getting rare.

Jaycee,
In the world of the 900R, everyone wants the original A1 model, and it has to have the original exhaust. Find a good one of those and you may beat the ISA......
Look on the GPZ zone website, there are some good bike for sale often on there.
Later ones go for peanuts, my 750 went for £600 !

Not the oldest one here but surely a classic waiting in the wings :bow

Love it..... :bounce1:drool.. I would love to have a nice one of those like yours. I learned to ride in the mid 80s and my early years were Honda years (MBX50,NS125F), I really lusted after the NS400R and the VF500 but ended up with a VF400 as it was all I could afford. Then the CBR600 came out in 87 and moved the game on in spec if not looks so I made one my first ever new bike so I never even got to ride an NS400R.

Just got it last week end. 26 years old, 21k miles, original pipes.

Looking forward to some fettlin over the winter months.

Had two of these great bikes an early 86 model and this one an A7 or A8 as I recall, one of the last of them.

There's a Japanese old bike event at the Ace Cafe tomorrow, but dont believe me, check first!!! I'm thinking of going for another reason.

ADayinTheGarage014.jpg

Happy days I had DHG 595 S which was a blue GT500 I paid £695 for it brand new in September 1977
The dealer was a car showroom on the A59 at Maghull and they where getting out of the motorcycle market hence the bargain price
I sold it three years later with 15000 miles on it

Old Zed's

This was my Old Zed (1976 Z90 A4)

a further amount of engine work to gas-flow the head, meant it could also now do this too . . . .
