Bought a 1969 Yamaha DS6 a few years ago- it was in pieces (several of them missing) but the engine had been fully rebuilt..... in 1979. There are a handful of them in this country as they were only made for 18 months before the YDS7 250 and YR5 350 were brought out. I have only ever seen one other- that was at Stafford show a couple of years ago that was restored by Classic Bike mechanics- that one wasn't complete and didn't run.
This is what my project should look like.....
Was at the Stafford show last weekend and what did Mrs Haydw spot? a complete YDS6 just imported from America. The chromework on it is in excellent order for its age, and it even ran, even though it was last on the road in 1982!!!
After a bit of haggling, it was transported home in the back of a Ford Galaxy and is now sitting in my dining room. For some reason it hasn't leaked any fluid all week, but woke up yesterday morning to find the house stinking of fuel and a puddle on the dining room floor.
Still, have all the parts for my project to make a mint one and enough bits to make a rough one. Not decided yet what to do with the rough one, sell as a project or for bits. The engine is the same as a Yamaha TD2 race bike from the same era and those bits are now getting rare.
