Julier pass or Albula pass?

Hey chaps!

Part of my route in June takes me south from Liechtenstein towards St Moritz and on to Bormio. It seems there are two options to get to St Moritz, the older Albula pass or the newer, Julier pass. Is that correct? It seems the Albula pass has far less traffic as the cars and trucks use the Julier pass, but which is the better ride? Maybe the newer, wider, more sweeping pass is actually more fun? I guess the Julier pass is more likely to be snow-free in June too? Can anyone help with my route planning??

Thanks!

Both are good... but I prefer the Julier, mostly because the surface is markedly better (or was last year, anyway). There's a bit more traffic but it's not busy - not like riding in the Lakes or Peak District.

You will not be disappointed with Julier.

Haven't done Albula.

Both are very good, the Julier is a faster more flowing ride, the Albula is prettier, but a bit more gnarly and a little bumpy in places.

On a sportsbike it would be the Julier, on an Adv bike both are very good so I would take the Albula if the weather is good and I had plenty of time, and the Julier if the weather was a bit iffy or I was in a hurry.

I'd suggest Chur - Lenzerheide - Davos - Fuella Pass - Offenpass - Umbrail Pass - Stelvio south ramp - Bormio :thumby:

The Fluella is a more flowing road than the Albula and one of the best passes in the Alps IMHO

Fallen snow or fresh snow? The snow risk was one of the reasons I was looking to perhaps stick to the "major" passes that would be better prepared.

All will be OK at that time of year unless hit by a sudden flurry, and there is nothing better than riding on great roads with snow either side, the Albula will most definitely look better with or without snow.

...don't do too much planning, have a few routes prepared and then choose what best suits your mood and the conditions of the day.
