Had a posting on here in December about our trip to Portugal on my 1150 to try and recover my wife's GS 650 which we had to leave there due to water pump failure. BMW in Faro didnt get her ready on time but we headed out on a flight last Thursday and rode back arrived Monday on the ferry into Portsmouth.
Would have got in on Sunday except I forgot my sat nav and we got screwed up on the roads in France so had to wait until Monday.
Anyway was a good trip be careful from Salamanca up to the Pyrenees it is still very very cold indeed. My wife had a Gerbings heated jacket but I didnt so I had to put on 8 (yes 8) tops under my GoreTex and I was still only just ok even though I had heated grips and heated inner soles in my boots.
If you're ever in the area just south of Salamanca heading towards Caceres, about 4 or 5km's out of Salamanca there is a village called Mozarbez. If you come off there there is a really good hotel there with amazing steaks. Price was 80Euros for the night but was good.
Also stayed in Mansle in a great hotel on the left as you enter the town over looking the river but food was much pricier although room reasonably priced at 50Euros.
Also hotel Ambassador on the quayside of Cherbourg looks a little dated in the rooms but clean and tidy and reasonable at £50 Euros a night. The owners are a wonderful couple that both look like they should be driving a Rolls Royce round Monte Carlo.
However watch the scam in the Cherbourg quayside restaurants of 6.80Euros for a pint (oh yes!) on the quayside!!!
Had 3 pints and almost passed out when the bill arrived with drinks at well over 20 Euros!!! I told the lady that's twice the price of London but she was just interested in getting my money she was quite rude in fact.
Salamanca through to Portugal was warmer and Caceres was beautiful. Southern France was chucking it down from Bordeaux past Poitiers.
Next trip being planned once I get my new panniers fitted.
