Got a strange lumpy rumbling feeling coming through the footrests  I've checked the FD and all seems ok(hoped it was that as I have a new one on the shelf) There seems to be no set rev range or speed when it occurs, but seems less prominent at high speed and may be more when cornering but I just can't nail it down. If you run the bike up on the main stand through the gears the drive trian sounds like a bag of nails with no load on it. I'm from a V Twin background so I'm not expecting a smooth running four cylinder type of motor. Tried to check swingarm bearings as leaning from side to side changes the feeling through the footrests, but I can't feel any play in the arm itself, have the UJ's been known to break up on the driveshaft? Is there a common issue I'm not aware of?
The bike is an 04 with 27thou on it (bought it with 14thou in March this year :D )

When you check the FD bearing, did you have it on mainstand holding the wheel at 9 o'clock and 3'oclock to feel for movement. If your bike has never had the FD bearing done you are in the approx mileage where it may need changing.

Never run the bike through any gear whilst on the centre stand.. that'll feck it up for certain:blast They're not designed for it.

Could it be your tyres? Some peeps have mentioned those in the past when leaning the bike over?

Edit: Fd bearing, worth checking but most go longer than 27k, UJ's can go but I'm sure you would feel it all of the time.

I'll recheck the FD when I get home tonight, and yes I do do it the 9oclock 3 oclock way. The handling is not as sharp, the Anakees have done arond 6k, I have a sey of alloy wheels with some tourances on I could try?

same

mine does the same and so does a few of my mates bikes as well . if it is the fd bearing its done well cos ive been to germany and normandy on it lol . i think its the tyres as you lean the bike over you can feel it through the pegs . my cure is dont worrry about it

Well there is something up at the back somewhere, checked it again when I got home and I can feel play either in the FD or the swingarm, cant quite tell which as I don't have lighting in the garage, either way its coming apart saturday.

Don't dismiss the tyres as a cause, my (getting) square Tourances caused the same sensation, a new pair and it was back to normal - try your spare wheels before ripping back end apart

I know what you mean about tyres, my squared off tourances gave a sensation similar to this but this is definitely mechanical and not a tyre issue. My problem is getting the ISO screw undone from the pivot pin, couldn't move it the last time I tried

Don't know about the 12's, but on the 1150's they are loctited in, you need to use a 'lot' of heat otherwise you will pull the threads out of the swingarm, use the search button first before going any further. :thumb

Could also be the bearing between the fd and the swingarm. It also seems quite common for a wheel bearing to have play when hot but none when cold.

.

Um so what happens when the bike goes over a jump or goes light? These bikes when used off road probably top out loads so I recon the are designed for it. I will give you they sound like crap doing it though.

Have to agree with some of the above posts, once the tyres wear down the bike can produce some strange vibration through the pegs when you are cranked over, Tourances especially. Wouldn't worry, you will know when the FD is knacked.

There is one thing the rear wheel leaving the ground for 1-2 seconds, another running on the centre stand:blast
