Bagged an 05 GS1200 from SLM on Saturday. What an incredible machine! Like many on here, I've been through the panoply of hyperbikes - Busas (UK), ZZR11 (Gemany - great place to have a fast bike), ZX-9 and 12 (Belgium - top giggles in the Ardenne and Lux), V-Max (South Africa - helluva scary on the twisties but lots of fun in the semi-desert roads) et al and just felt it was about time to try one of these behemoths. Plus as I hurtle towards 40 my reactions aren't what they were. And I'm a lardbeast.
So - good decision
Servo ABS is amazing and the telelever malarky is something else but on Saturday it was raining so with the new tyres front and rear I was taking it super slowly.
The buffeting on the M23 was horrendous (I'm 6') but lowering the screen seems to have sorted that although no doubt in the rain it'll be a problem so I'll get some of these Tobinator fellows.
Only downer so far is the right-hand indicators don't work (although the hazards do work (and I love them when filtering)) and this appears to be a common problem. So, bike's back at the dealer getting sorted. Still, the performance is way, way better than I'd expected even if I do keep reminding myself that it cuts out if I rev too hard. With the Busa I was seeing an indicated 160 every day on the way to work (on a quiet by-pass) and it started to feel safe. I sold the bike the following day.
I was on my way to LA yesterday for the GS run but left too late (that's LA as in Lil'Ampton, not LAX). Next time, Oh Sons of my Bavaria, I shall join you!
btw this forum was instrumental in my decision both for a GS and for SLM - I was looking for a 1200LT but was advised that going Cityward daily on an LT would be a major mission.
