Just got a 2020 CB500X with a number of extras, what luggage

Magadan panniers are very good, I use those with a 30 litre roll bag for camping gear, small tank bag and a small Peli case as a top box, it's lockable and I have a 12v feed into it for charging my tablet (etc).

So the bags arrived from China, pretty quick for 149€ I have just tried them on the bike, but not ridden and I must say they seem good. I might add a bar vertically to help stop them flapping about, but actually it is possibly not needed if I have a proper load.
Some before and after shots, I have since cut the straps to length.

Richie, check out the Rally Raid Products luggage racks for the CB500X. Just the job for stopping soft panniers flapping about...

You need some sort of frame to keep them stable and away from the moving parts. The least I'd do is sketch out a rectangular frame and get a local blacksmith to weld it up.

Did something similar once for a DR600 using a fairly heavy flat steel bar purchased from B&Q. I heated it, twisted it and drilled it where necessary to meet a couple of suitable mounting points.. in fact it was three. It worked incredibly well - the bars weren't supporting a structure, just holding the bags in place. I thing the natural flexibility of the bar helped too, they went to Erg Chebbi and back without isssue.

I know some people will be horrified at doing the job for £15 worth of bar and hammerite rather than buying something 'proper', but if you're venturing away from home, there's a comfort in using stuff you built yourself because you know how to fix it.

Absolutely, spot on,

Just done a 500K round trip to Milltown Malbay for a night of trad and beer. I have totally fusioned with this bike, it is absolutely brilliant. Yes indeed it could do with an extra 20BHP once in a while, but it does everything so well. My worries about handling were sorted simple by checking and adjusting the tyre pressures....

What tyres are you on and what pressures? I’m on Dunlop Mixtours at the recommended pressures (new bike, done 200miles) and the rear shock seems to me to be under-damped.
