Just got this

So the story goes and I get to meet the guy tomorrow. He bought 2 1996 R 100 GSPD Classics identical and left this one in the crate and has ridden the other one since (apparently heavily mod'd and 246,000kms) He could not resist getting it out and has ridden it recently and it is as good as it looks in the pictures, I have checked that all is original on this bike and it is, it all matches the original documentation. pleased I am.

Its a beaut.:)

In my opinion, the finest of the airheads. Better than a basic and without the stupid prices.

If you leave now you should just about get here for the Airhead weekend in June.:D

Isn't that great, the guy had a choice between the 246K and the 60K and he stuck with the old nail. Just goes to show how much these bikes are about character as much as anything else. Have a great time with the bike Roger, hopefully it will grow on you as well as the 246K one did with the previous owner. :thumb2

By 240.000 km he has probably done a fair bit of work to it and knows exactly what he has. Probably has a few aftermarket bits on it too.

At 60,000 km over the next 40.000 km you can reasonably look at rebuilding the starter, drive shaft, paralever bearings, gearbox rear seal / bearing and the shock.

I think Ive run into the PO a few times and if it is the guy Im thinking of ther the term one carefull owner is an understatement - 80 km/ hr would be a big adventure for this guy.

Roger

How is the bike going? You've had a couple of days to get acquainted -whaddaya reckon? :thumb

I have had 2 1150s one std and an adventure and still have a 1200 GSA, when I got the GSPD I thought what have you done, the brakes juddered the throttle was as stiff as and the bike was a little reluctant to go. It has obviously not had much use. The front brake is settling in it must have developed a high spot on the disk from contact with the pad and is now rapidly getting better, the throttle issue was the throttle lock needing adjusting, I adjusted off the bike as I could not easily get to the right indicator button. It has loosened off a treat and with new Tourances on, to be honest is now probably the nicest GS to ride I have had.
What would I change?

I find it difficult to stand up so I need the bars raising and if possible the pegs lowering, not sure how easy that is, but it is very good on the gravel roads here even sat down.

The side stand takes some getting used to.

All in all I am really pleased with the old girl.

I will post some more pictures soon :clap
