best get a decent backup. time machine or superduper would be good, but you'd have that anyway. hopefully.
i think apple charge extra for swapping the data over.
my imac is the model with the issue, but it has an optional 2TB drive that doesn't seem to have the high failure rate, so is not on the recall. i still keep 2 backups of the drive though.
I have a backup routine with Time Machine![]()
Which iMac is it that has the problem, I doubt they know I have my one.
Apparently mine has a suspect hard drive and it will be changed for free under the iMac 1TB Seagate Hard Drive Replacement Program. Arse![]()
Before sending off the iMac, make another backup using SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner onto and external drive - USB or even better - Firewire 800
You want to make sure you've got 2 backups before sending it off.
Also, restoring from Time Machine takes ages (I presume it's over a network?)
Restoring from USB or Firewire is much quicker, especially if you've got Firewire 800
if you want the quick restore from a superduper clone, you need to make sure that the drive you back up to is bootable.
format mac journaled and change the default to GUID Partition Table scheme. when it's all done, including the image, check it actually boots.
restoring from time machine does take 2 or 3 hours, while superduper could be a fraction of that, but it is simpler.
i think it's £78 for apple to do it all for you, but i might be wrong.
How can apple charge £78 quid to copy the drive
It's there fuck up not mine
Like others have said I remember walking out of the apple store in covent garden with that great big bleeding box which shouted out Fucking Expensive PC In here and thinking everyone knows exactly what's in here and expecting a smack on the bleeding head

Microshit would have kept Schtum ..
