Just picked up my new GS, some advice needed!

Excellent bike, trying at the min to keep it below 4k! The gearbox is sweeter than the 04 model I test rode and the engine seems smoother, although I am aware demo bikes get a hard time!!

I've got the seat on the lowest setting(i'm 5'11) however i've got a problem finding a setting with the screen, would it be worth putting the seat on the higher setting? Or should I invest in a new screen?

Not having any problems with grip but how hard can I push the tourances? Pegs down hard? I've already used up the whole with of the tyre.

Second question is about luggage, I can currently get a set at cost price(20% off list) but are there better bits of kit out there at a cheaper price?

Also I noticed the front shock says WP on it.... I thought they were BMW units!?

I'm 6 foot and use the lower seat setting with the screen in the middle position. This provides excellent protection, given the design purpose of the bike.

Any tyre will allow the bike to be leaned over to the pegs in the dry. However, Bridgstone 020s will allow the best results for road riding in terms of speed of steering, feedback and ride quality.

I've got BMW luggage, which I haven't had a problem with. However you'll find plenty of threads on this matter, with all sorts of opinions.

As far as I'm aware, the suspension units are made by WP, which, were formerley known as white power (I'll stand corrected). But I don't think that name is very PC now.

Don't get too hung up on the 4K revs bit. Just allow it to rev and don't bog the motor down. Again plenty of threads on this matter.

i think that WP is making all the BMW shocks now....
they certainly are on the non-ESA K1200S's, as far as i know

A taller screen from NN is on my shopping list. I noticed when touring that the windblast above the standard screen at speed is really annoying and due to my noisy Arai lid, I can't hear my Mp3's and speech from Autocom/GPS as clearly as I would like.

I use the BM panniers, but in hindsight wish I had fitted Touratech Zega's: Stronger, top loading (kit doesn't fall out like side-loaders). bigger (wasted internal space due to expander mechanism on BM panniers), lashing points on top.

I've pushed my Tourances pretty hard with some impressive lean angles, and they have behaved impeccably on all surfaces and in some bad weather too.

The WP shocks are high quality items, WP are now the official supplier to BMW (yes, they were formerly called white power). I suspect they are built to a budget, though their aftermarket stuff is up there alongside Ohlins, Technoflex etc so its a trusted name in racing and should perform well. There is a lot more preload adjustment on these units than the previous Bm items.
