Hi Folks,

I am doing a bit of maintenance on my 2014 R1200RT LC shaft drive. There was a split at the bottom of the 3rd segment of bellows at the gearbox end and I decided to remove the swing arm drive shaft to replace it. The shaft came off the gearbox output shaft during removal but seems a bugger to slide back on?. Is there an index spline on this shaft I know there is one my 1150 but the 1200 looks pretty uniform??. Also there seems to be an indent for a snap ring but there is none? I assume there should be? All input gratefully received.

Thanks.

Has the shaft seperated from the final drive splines (nearest the back wheel).

Or is it still attached to the final drive?

At the gearbox output shaft end, you might want to remove the cable tie, and push back the rubber gaitor... this'll give you a fighting chance to line up the splines with the shaft.

Theres no index point, any angle will do. Just push it on until it clicks into place.

It's a bastard but don't panic, it can be done with patience.

If the shaft has seperated from the final drive end, this is your best position to push the shaft back onto the gearbox-end splines.... then replace your rubber gaitor.

If its rusted firm, you may want to consider unbolting the final drive and pulling it all out... to then seperate on a work bench.

I have the shaft out as I took the swing arm off to replace the gator and tidy up the paint work on the swing arm. Just thought that the shaft would slide on and off the gearbox output shaft as it has no snap ring (there should be one now ordered from motorworks. Shaft seems reluctant to slide onto the splines :nenau. the Drive shaft Slid off the final drive OK as it seemed to have white grease on it.

Swing arm came off ok too after heating up the pins for a bit. Bike has 28K on it. Now not much left on the back of the bike :D

Had another fiddle. Snap ring was hiding!! Give it a bit of a shove and it popped on......i have also ordered a spare snap ring....not needed :). Thanks for all the input folks....Lots of fun now touching up the swing arm and putting it all back together :)
