Does anyone know,

Should a 2006 Road King Classic have come with engine & rear guards/bars as std?

The more i look at them the more i see them with em fitted. The one ive just bought, (coming tomorrow) doesn't have them??

Puzzled....

Here's one...

Thanks David, I saw that picture, plus many others, they all had bars??

Ive emailed the dealer to ask why, telling them not to deliver it till they call me. Could be simply the previous owner didn't like them and took them off??

I'll wait to see what they say.

They should definitely be on the bike :rob

Were they removed because they were scuffed by the previous owner..?

Or just removed for 'aesthetic' reasons..?

Whatever, they should be on the bike!!!

Mate, I'm guessing they were removed because they were scuffed. Why else would they be taken off? I have to admit they look better without the bars but cant help wondering....

Ive paid for the bike as well and as a used bike ive seen it and agreed to buy it. Its in really nice condition, I couldnt see any evidence of accident damage?

Perhaps I'm worrying too much!!

They really do work rather well as well! (Ask me how I know :blast)

Just spoke to the chap at the dealer and expressed a concern re no engine bars.

He spent about 20 mins on the phone, asking me why i was concerned, what he could do to put my mind at rest etc. My main concern was they had been removed because the bike had been down the road obviously. Now I know the only way you can be sure is to buy new, but you would like to think a dealer would not take a crashed bike in?

Anyway the upshot is the guy spent another 10 mins looking over the bike to be sure, then rang me back saying it was all good, and he has put a new set of engine bars on it FOC!

The bike is currently on a van on its way down to me, and fair play to the guy, i went a saw/bought the bike without engine bars, he didn't have to fit them?

There are some good dealers out there!

. My main concern was they had been removed because the bike had been down the road obviously. !

Whatever makes you think just because the crashbars have been removed the bike has been down the road .

If you don't like your new bike and decide to sell it should a buyer be worried because it has new crashbars fitted ?? - using your logic he'll think they're new because the old ones were scrapped and bent because your bike has been down the road
:D:D

It's a second hand Harley. The chances of it being standard must be somewhere between highly unlikely and never :blast

not the same / but all the same... :pullface

My Guzzi Cali had rear crash bars when i bought it.
Got it home and couldn't get the fecker through the gate - the rear bars made the bike wider than the gate! :blast

took them off right away / never put them back on.

...and he has put a new set of engine bars on it FOC!

And I'd be expecting the rear ones too...

A 'non standard Harley' should mean it's had modifications that improve it, not just had useful stuff off taken off, that was fitted as standard anyway :rob

Don't see many of those around do you!
Most are festooned in chrome skulls, eagles and Live to Ride tat.
I remember going to look at one that was covered in Live to Ride, Ride to Live shite on every available cover/mirror etc. The bike was about 6 years old and had done about 900 miles. I refrained from saying "Aint lived much then have you!"

Do you know what the word 'should' means..? :D

When I first looked at the bike the r/h stainless steel fork slider cover had a dent in it (been replaced), right where the engine bar would have been. Now anyone who's turned these on lock will see there aint much room between the tube and the engine bar anyway, so it wouldn't have taken much of a bend in the engine bar for the slider tube to be dented when you swing it on lock.

Now ive had time to study the bike all i think thats happened is that the bike has either fallen over, or been laid on the right side. The engine bar has been bent slightly, then the next time the guy swung it on lock it dented the tube? It has to have been done like that as the rest of the bits that would have been 'caught' in a spill on that side look completely OE!

There, thats me mind put at rest..........
