Just got it never had one before. Not got time to fit it till weekend. Just how good are they?.....and what would happen if i didn't put the block of foam in the middle?

I found a good mid range increase, and only a small change when the exhaust was fitted. Check the snorkel as per my previous post. The foam block should be fitted unless serious engine mods have been carried out, (read the instructions) and its handy as it pre-cleans the air, and can be regularly washed as the filter needs little maintenance for many thousands of miles and will work out much cheaper than the paper element which the bike destroys quite quickly. I got a small mpg increase of 4 - 5. Over the last 6000 miles my worst has been 82mpg and the best 87mpg, now my runs are never less than 200 miles but at speeds up to 85ish, I think its really good. As standard the mid range at road speeds is very good, the engine never needs revving hard just short shift and whack the throttle open in top gear at any speed above 45ish, so much easier than the 600 Hornet I had before and the K&N has made this even better. sue
