Do I remember correctly that there was an issue identified with K1300 starter problems?

Was out on mine today and when I came to start it to go home it wouldn't. Sounds like the starter is spinning but not engaging. I've never had occasion to take a starter off one of these motors so it don't know the details of how they work. Bumped it and it started no probs. (Savaged my right calf with the lovely HP footrests in the process!)

I seem to recall reading about some dodgy lead or other that caused this issue? Anyone shed any light on the subject.

There is a hot start problem that BMW rectify with a beefier cable between the starter and battery.

There is an upgrade if you need it and it should be free of charge - your dealer will (should) sort it out for you BUT your first stop should be to check out the battery and all the relevant connections. Any starting issues I've ever had always came down to an iffy battery or a poor connection somewhere.

Good luck (fantastic bike, I've got one too, although I recall you're trying to sell yours).

Thanks, I'll check the battery and connections as a matter of course but I had this vague memory of some issue. I'll check with my local dealer to see if they did the upgrade when it was serviced and, if not, get them to do it.

Yes, I am trying to sell it - but not through choice! It's an incredible machine and I'd be more than happy to be able to keep it.

Having owned a lava orange K1300s and sold it, I can tell you you will miss and and want it back.

If I could ever actually afford one again (highly unlikely now) I would buy one in a heartbeat, fabulous mile munching machine with an addictive Akra enhanced howl.

I really really miss it.:mad:

You don't need to rub it in! :( I already miss it.

I did 50k on my K12S and loved every mile of it and the 13 was the only thing that could replace it - faster, better suspension, better brakes, same perfect riding position, all-day comfort, ability to cruise at 150+mph with passenger and luggage AND then accelerate strongly. I do not exaggerate when I say that this bike has kept me alive on journeys where the 12 would have let me die. If you want to cover big distances, on roads, on two wheels, this is the bike - and BMW have no replacement for it. They're not totally stupid though, they know dropping it from the range won't lose them any sales, simply because no one else has a replacement for it either!

However, as things stand, I won't miss it at all because no one wants to buy it! Hell of a shame:green gri

I had a K1300S, fantastic bike, it had three warranty repairs in 15,000 miles

Both handlebar switch gears. If I recall correctly the starter button failed, was how the RH one was detected and the horn on the LH side.

The other failure was driveshaft bearings replaced during a service.

It is still in the range for 2016 as the K1300S Motorsport version.

That's good news - not that I'll get able to afford another one for a while. It must be on borrowed time though, being the only bike in the range using that engine. I read somewhere that the engine and transmission of the 1600 is only 20kg heavier than the 1300, I think I could live with that in something like a K13S-sized chassis - it could still be lighter than a K13GT. Now that would be a project, I mean, it's not like it hasn't been done...
