Clinging to reality by a finger tip.
Assuming someone buys my HD I'm looking at buying either a K1600GT or RT.

Thing is, I need a passenger backrest and to mount my Garmin 590. I think it's possible to mount both to a RT but the number of solutions for the K1600GT is much less.

Topboxe backrests aren't a favorite due to looks, but I guess if needs must. A stand alone backrest attached to the rear rack would be great but I can't find one.

I'd really like to mount the 590 just under the screen. I've a 590 mounted below the ignition key but consider that way to far out of line of sight.

Ideas anyone.

Thanks.

Assuming someone buys my HD.... Ideas anyone.

Observation: You are trying to turn the 1600 GT into a HD !!!

Ideas: The Americans are big into all sorts of backrests and paraphernalia to bolt on radar detectors, cameras and the like. The more active US 1600 GT forums will doubtless fill your boots with inspiration for all sorts of tasteless bling to 'enhance the ownership experience' and ‘make a statement’ about the owner.

PS The 1600 has a very nice method of mounting its GPS device as standard. The whirlywheel thing works very well too, at least with the Nav IV and V.

PPS A simple Google of 'bmw k1600 backrest' turns up all sorts of ideas, pictures and inspiration.

PPPS A similar simple Google search of 'bmw k1600 gps device mounting' has very similarly excellent results.

It's a brilliant invention; let's hope it catches on :beerjug:

Idea number two: Why not have a look at the GTL variant of the bike? It's lower styling, different cruiser type footrests and added chrome will look much better with add-on additions, like the backrest.

Heres an idea. No pillion seat (so no need for a backrest) and it comes complete with NASA space suit helmet to compliment the wood.
