I'm looking at replacing the cat on an '08 GSA with some Keihan headers and fitting an Akra titanium can. Has anyone got this combination (or similar) and how has it worked out? I'm really interested in knowing if there have been fueling issues or not on the post '08 engines as I don't want to hole a piston but equally don't the hassle of fitting a Power Commander and have to get the bike dyno'd. From the posts I have read I'm getting the impression that changing the headers and the can puts the 08/09 engines as lean as they can go without changing fueling.

This combi is as far as I want to take any engine mods and just want some comfort factor that the standard ECU/O2 sensors can cope.

Perhaps I'm just more pessimistic than you but the impression I've gained is that fitting headers and a can to an '08 or '09 bike (and I believe that they have different fuel maps) will make the engine run too lean for its own good - not to mention too lean to fully exploit the exhaust and make optimum power.

I ran a full Remus system on my '04 and '07 bikes - whacked it on without a thought for the fuelling. The '07 bike, in particular, flew with it fitted. Latterly, I acquired a Power Commander but never got round to fitting it. Thinking about fitting the system and Power Commander to my '09 bike, I discussed this with my local, well-respected, Dynojet Centre - http://www.ype-power.co.uk/html/ The guy I spoke to there told me that he'd just dyno'd an '07 bike with a full system that day and this was later confirmed by the owner of the bike who's a member on here. The dyno guy said that the bike was so lean, on one pot in particular that he was surprised that it hadn't melted.

I've already fitted my Remus can to my now 700 mile-old bike but I think I'll be fitting the Power Commander at the same time as I fit the headers.

I have posted on this a few times and posted dyno run results so do a search on remus & Dyno.

Yes the new 08 09 engines are very lean and you should get good advice before fitting a full system. A full Remus system with baffles in ran way too lean and very hot.

Why not save money and just fit a set of headers to eliminate the cat and see where you are then. You might like the sound and power change and have saved £400. :thumb2
