I will be replacing the headers on my 08 GSA since I want to remove the cat. I may or may not also change the can I will see after the headers have been changed.

My preference is for the replacements to retain the balance pipe and for there to be a hanger which takes the weight of the pipes in the central section (where the oem cat is fitted). The Akropovic headers fullfill this requirement but are too expensive. The Remus ones are better priced but don't have the balance pipe. So I'm looking at the Keihan headers which look like a good buy except they dont have a hanger.

So, I got in touch and asked if they would add one. They have answered positively and said they will look into it when they next make a batch of headers for my bike. I have offered mine up for them if they need a guinea pig.

The point of the post is to guage any other interest as I feel I'm not the only one who wants to persuade Keihan to add the hanger so the more interest they have the more likely they are to add the hanger.

Please post up.

If i was going to replace the headers, i too would want a centre hanger, have you looked at Laser downpipes, they have a balance pipe and centre hanger.

It's been strongly suggested that '08 onwards bikes run very lean and fitting aftermarket headers sans cat' could make them dangerously so. If you do fit a different set of pipes, you may want to have your bike run on the dyno and fit one of the devices to remap the fuelling.

Guys

My bike is the factory guinea pig for Keihan and we will be looking at a hanger next Wednesday when the developement pipes are off my bike again.

TBH, you don`t really need a hanger and I`ve run the headers for 18 months with no problems. I run on and off road and am pretty hard on the bike.

Remember you have removed all the weight by removing the CAT:thumb

Schtum, I am worried about this remap.

Is it just a download or do I have to buy a power commander?

It's Power Commander, or another similar device time, I'm afraid....:blast

It depends upon which year your bike is and which BMW fuel map is in the ECU. I was talking to YPE in Bonnyrigg yesterday and they'd just had someone in who's on this site, having his '07 bike remapped with a Power Commander. Stuart at YPE said it was so lean on the left pot that it's a surprise it didn't melt.

Having said that, I put about 3.5K miles on my '07 bike with a full Remus and never got round to fitting the PCIII which I got for it. But, as I said, the '08 onwards bikes are reported to run even leaner and fitting a set of pipes without the cat' without remapping might be a step too far.

Since you're in the land of the Oddfellow, the closest Dynojet Centre to you is Wee Bob Grant up at Knockhill. If you're fitting or have fitted a set of headers, I'd be tempted to go and get him to run your bike on the dyno to get some air/fuel ratio readings and take it from there.

The good news is that if it does need remapped, there's no a Power Commander V which performs all kinds of magic tricks......:augie

You may well be right but for the sake of a bit of SS sometimes what the customer wants is more than the customer needs. I am concerned about the posts regarding the lean running engine - sure they do but thats what the O2 sensors will work out for you - won't they?

They would if they were wideband lambda sensors and operated over the full rev range at all throttle openings but they're not. Equally the knock sensors offer some level of protection by retarding the timing if the engine begins to knock but, as I've said, the suggestion is that the '08 onwards bikes already run so lean that fitting a full system can take the fuelling requirements outside the parameters of the ECU's fuel map.

When I've run in my new '09 bike, I'll fit the full Remus system and the Power Commander and have a map made up on the dyno. At that point, it should lalso be possible to get some unadjusted air/fuel ratio readings to get an idea of just how lean the engine runs with a full system and no Power Commander

headers

Guys n gals,

If this is so dangerous why have BMW sold me, and fitted remus headers and can onto my 08GS and been assured it will not affect my warranty ?

Last week i had my first service on my 09GSA and was told by the mechanic, who i have known for years ( top guy ) to fit my headers and can before the service so any fettling can be done with them on. On collection then told everything was sweet and running lovely :nenau

Why would they sell and fit bits that could damage your bike ?

+1 :clap :clap :clap

I had a Dealer Fitted Remus System put on my 06 1200 from Brand New and had no problems.
I've just had a Titanium Akrapovic System fitted to my Megamoto and run on a Dyno to check the Fuelling.I said that if it needed one,a Power Commander was to be fitted. The Dyno Operator said that the Fuel Injection had self adjusted and that the Fuel/Air Ratio was reading at Factory Tolerances. :nenau

Likewise, I did 12K miles on my '04 bike and 3.5K on the '07 with a full Remus but, as I said......

So propably the best thing one can do is if fitted his bike with aftermarket headers to go to a dyno just to check..!If everything is running well then no problem,if not that's why they sell devices such as PC!Simple as that!I have removed my cat and have an acro can and im planning 2morrow to test it..Just to make sure..!Thanks!
