The autumn pet food run is to a home for ex-racing greyhounds near Canterbury.

At the moment we have one meeting place at the Stop 24 Services by J11 of the M20, and will be adding another, possibly at the Oakdene Cafe layby.

Please see www.geocities.com/kentpetrun for more details and I hope that UKGSers can help raise the numbers and also increase thepile of food.

Ta.

P.S. The dogs have been raised on a special diet and are unable to digest tinned food and so we are asking for donations and dried "complete" foods.

Won't be able to make this one. I'll be en route to Spain.

We had retired greyhound as a pet - Little Mo was her name (known as Moey) and she was the most docile and placid dog we ever had, although completely untrained. She was incredibly unfit when we got her, and could only run for 50 yds before stopping in a heap of panting, but once she was fitter, I have never seen anything move so fast so easily.

Unfortunately she developed a taste for our chickens (and had some amazing scraps with the geese ) so we passed her on to our local blacksmith, who bred lurchers from her and we chose the pick of the first litter.

Ever since, I've always recommended a retired/uncompetitive greyhound when they're considering getting a dog. As long as they don't keep chickens.

Cheers Robin.

I've been told they make good pets, but with two cats I won't be getting one myself. I'd prefer something that I can squeeze in the tankbag....
