Hi,

Anybody who can diagnose a klonk klonk noice from the rear wheel, when I have it on the centerstand and let the wheel rotate in 1st gear?

I have compared with another R1200GS and it has almost no noice fron its rear wheel.

When I turn the wheel by hand, then no noice and tolerance sideways is about 1 mm, so I presume its not the wheel bearings, but I am not sure.

Don;t do this!

The transmission is designed to have load on it not to spin freely

Maybe the other bikes brake calliper is sticking and not allowing free motion

But If you have no movement across the frame on the wheel assembly and you are still worried then check the driveshaft or take it to a garage and have them check it for you

I have now done the same with rear brake engaged and I do not get a smooth run.

It seems something is giving friction in bumps. Like a wracked bearing of dimensions, but when I turn the wheel by hand there is no friction, but instantly in gear the friction appear very clearly.

Any idea why this can happen?

If your getting this noise when the bikes on the centre stand and the engine is running and 1st is engaged it is normal transmission lash noises.

Kardan swivel

GS delivered for repair today.

Rear FD ring gear back part ordered, but pre-diagnosis is more worn down kardan swivel. It makes sense, as un-even drive today, which match a defect kardan swivel.

If true, then less than quoted 1100 BP for the repair(exchange) of rear ring gear (FD) part, which would be welcome.

PS: milage is 48000 km and oil changed on or before BMW recommented intervals for rear FD ring gear back part.

I don't think there is anything wrong with your bike, sounds like normal transmission backlash to me, not designed to run without load on :comfort
