Knacked Engine at 12K

I thought it's meant to make a noise...

My 2001 1150 has done 26,000 miles and at the last service two months ago i was given a list of advisories. first said engine feels bottom endy possible crank shells, I have'nt ridden the bike since in case in goes tits up and i can't afford to have it fixed at bmw prices. so its just rotting in the shed, if anyone has any advise i would be gratful cos i don't know what to do

thanks

I wonder how the h*** the crank shells can go at this mileage.

Sure it aint big end shells?

You can replace them more easy.

Crank shells is not undoable, but requires proper tools and space.

  • Run the engine with no/low oil (unlubed bearings)
  • Let the oil get too hot (oil breaks down with heat)
  • Not changing oil and/or filter (oil breaks down with age)
  • Run with wrong grade of oil (too thin and it centrifuges from the main bearings)
  • High revs (bearing wear accelerates at high revs)
  • Caning the engine when cold (clearances all wrong)
