Knackered Shock?

I think the rear shock might be knackered on the Dak

The preload knob is turning but it still seems to be really soft.

Can it be serviced and if so at what cost.

The other option is to replace the shock. Is the dakar shock longer than the standard 650gs?

I may also consider a stiffer spring as well, any ideas?

Anyone got one for sale

I got one, I'll ask Micky how many miles it had done before it was replaced with the Wilbers to make sure it's not 'gone'.

And yes it's longer.

if ya don't want snoopys i've got one as well. about 5k on it i reckon. If you don't want it its going on fleabay, had enough of looking at it

They can be rebuilt although BMW say they cant. I was quoted in the region of £45 to £99 from various places and that did not include the parts

I have wound the preload right back to soft and then hardened it up. It is actually doing something

Feels a bit harder but I've added a touch more compression damping on to make it less spongy.

I think it may have overheated yesterday whilst off roading in wales.

I guess a standard shock mey not be the way forward but a Wilbers etc is far too dear for my meagre wallet contents at the mo

what about getting your shock rebuilt and re valved / springed to suit you. Got to be an improvement over stock and cheaper than a wilbers or ohlins.

I've got a spare you can borrow til you get yours fixed or replaced. I've no idea what mileage it's done, I bought it from a breakers off a written off bike. Should be alright.

Yep maye, bought Snoops old shock, need to get it re-sprung though before I fit it.

The original shock is working but I think it would be better with a stiffer spring.

You should speak to KAIS...they will spec a spring for your weight and type of riding...
