Hi Folks
Is it normal for F650's to knock loudly on idle when cold. Yesterday I went to have a look at a "low mileage" 04 that looked OK, but knocked like a diesel dump truck when idling from a cold start. That and the fact that the rear sprocket was completely ****** after "5500 miles" and the speedo had been changed got me driving home before it got hot. Shame it meant hiring a van and a round trip of 180 miles:mad: So, if anyone has a 04 on, genuine low mileage minter they don't want and you live within a sensible distance of Ross on Wye, please let me know. My wife wants the money to go towards a new Mini and I can't fight her off for long. I have posted a ad in the Forsale & Wanted. Thanks.

It's quite likely that the cam chain tensioner was stuck, the newer type is a cheap and easy fix.

By knock, if you mean did it sound like a thumpin 650 single, then yes, they do sound a bit agricultural.

You can hear the sound of each explosion as it happens.

Not smooth like a KLR or similar.

The sprocket wear would lead me to think more miles, not the engine sound. Mines only done 18000, and is solid, but it does sound like it could come apart at any minutes :D:D:D

The front sprocket can wear quite rapidly depending on how it's been ridden, mine lasts around 1500 miles max. different bike and riding style I know.
