Krauser Panniers

so, using my GS as i do, mainly two up and on roads, we decided to upgrade the panniers from factory to Krauser 47 Litre jobs, they look OK, they were easy to fit, but sit about 6" above the rear seat level, and so make it hard for the 'lil lady to get on / off, looking at it, a piece of ally plate drilled to fit original mounts, then drilled again lower down to take the pannier mounting will act nicely as a lowering plate, question is, has anybody out there had experience of this mod

any advice great fully received, i'm new here so take it easy OK
