Ktm 1290 SAR failed tank cap

Anyone else had a keyless fuel tank lock go bad on their 1290?

Mines became really stiff to open and close despite regular lubrication and can no be opened and close regardless of if its locked or not.

I feel a visit to the dealer coming on.

Nope, no issues on mine. But if it’s stiff, squirt some lock lube on; jobs a goodun. No need for the dealer to get involved.
 
Like I said I regularly lube the mechanism, but it's definately went faulty.
It's extremely stiff and can be opened even when it should be locked.
Just wanted to see if others have had the same issue.

Nope - never had anything like that - sounds like a trip to the dealer....
 
Well the dealers "TripleD" at kendal couldn't be more helpful.
Ordered a replacement based on a telephone conversation, should be in this coming week. I wish more dealers operated the same.

To do so that quickly suggests this is not the first (lots more on adv rider moaning about the fuel cap) normally KTM would insist on no warranty parts until the bike has been inspected, my guess is they have seen a few and now just get the parts sent out as soon as a complaint comes in, fair enough until the bike is out of warranty and their design flaw hits your pocket.

I wonder if they have updated the design of them since they started having issues?
 
The fella I spoke to said he's changed a few and they haven't been back with the same issue. I have read up on lots of cases of the cap going bad too. I think if it goes again, I'll change to the conventional key type used on the 1290 super adventure t or the 1190 adventure models.
Perhaps the design has been improved on the replacements, but I can't find an superceded notes on the microfiche for any of the models using the keyless lock system.
