I've been running my 2006 1200GS with a Laminar Lip for the last 30,000 miles and know it works well but recently I had the opportunity to test it against Cooper's loan bike.

On the way into work from Coopers on the motorway on their loan bike, I was aware suddnely that my Shoei XR 1000 had been pushed back on my head to the extent that my nose touched the visor. This happened at 85mph and I had to throttle back to 75 in order to reduce the wind effect to a comfortable level.

The next day back on my bike with the Lip installed I rode the same stretch of road at the same 85mph. On my bike it was very comfortable with no wind pressure or buffeting. I wound mine up a bit and it was comfortable much beyond 85 and never any backward pressure on the Shoei.

For me then the lip gives me at least 20mph extra with comfort on the motorway meaning I can tour all day at a reasonable pace without buffeting.

I'm 5' 10 with a standard seat.

It may not work for everyone but for around £50 I find the Lip is a great solution.

I think it works better that replacement screens becuase it lifts the wind up and over and smooths it rather than creating more turbulence which sometimes happens with replacement screens.

Question, did you order direct from Laminar, or is there somewhere here in the UK to get from? Secondly anybody with a GSA1200 got one, if so what are your thoughts? :thumb2

Not meaning to be funny, but if your helmet moves that much then it might be too big for you and not a good fit in case of an accident. It could twist round.

I have been looking at a laminar lip and appreciate your post.

Is the lip on the standard screen or the adv screen?

I ordered my lip directly from laminarlip.com - was pretty straightforward.
Its on the standard GS screen.

shedracer, I ordered over the net direct with the maker, ordered Monday morning and it arrived the next Friday, and you can track its progress all the way. I used the USPS (US postal service) option which was the cheapest. Mine was sent to Singapore, UK may be even quiker.

My advice to anyone buying one is the try it out in various positions using masking tape before securing it.

Mine has made a big difference, much quieter and better rain protection.
