I have had this happen to me too over the past couple of days.

I washed the bike with a pressure washer taking great care not to concentrate on the electrics and pointing down with the lance.

Since then LAMPR has been displayed twice and LAMPF displayed once.

All three times, i have stopped, checked all bulbs and all has been fine and then switched off the bike and switched it back on and rode on with no further light warnings coming on.

The bike is a 2006 GS 1200 and is fitted with -

Autocom 300
Heated grips
Origanal battery
Zumo 550
Keis heated waistcost at level 5 all the time up here.......Brrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Sounds odd but as im useless electrically i'll say it anyway - today, my sat nav was playing up and connecting to autocom dongle and then disconnecting immediately and i wasn't getting voice commands through from the zumo - connected to my probs or not?

I have also heard that heated clothing has been known to illuminate this light - culprit?

Also just to begin with, my autocom was being a bugger yesterday too after i washed the bike but i checked and the unit was bone dry as was the bubble wrap it was wrapped up in - another possible culprit?

Im a wee bitty panicked by this as, although the bike hasn't failed me, i NEED it to be 100% perfect from now until the end of next week at least as i NEED my bike for a course i have to sit down at Bedford and i need to do the 1000-1100 mile round trip without incident or at the very least get down there but i must have use of my bike when im down there.

Have not checked any bulbs, casing etc but have no cause to as all the lights are working A1.

Can anybody offer advice?

Thanks, Dave:)

You`ll find the rear light needs cleaning out. They are prone to crap and water getting in the unit and you`ve probably filled it with water.

Take the lens off, remove the bulb, dig the sh*t out, spray with WD40, clean up the connections and all will be well:thumb

Did mine today after the same problem appeared.

One more thing to consider.

The LAMPR (or rear lamp) is twin filament.

If one of the filaments goes, the other may still be working and glowing like a good 'un. But the clever BuMW bike tells you to check it, probably by looking at the bulb... Or you can wait until the second filament goes, still have the have the warning light on, but no illumination of your rear end.

The bikes designers were actually so 'clever' that for added safety in the event of a blown tail lamp filament, the bikes system will run the brighter, thicker lamp filament (STOP) on lower power to look like the tail light filament and only increase it's power/brightness as you use the brakes. This makes you think nothing is wrong with the rear lamp when you look at it despite the LAMPR warning.

If you inspect the lamp filaments very closely whilst cleaning out the rear light fitting, you might find the 'Tail' filament has blown. If it has, get the new lamp from your BMW Motorrad dealer as the internal resistance of a non-BMW lamp may trigger spurious alarms in future due to the sensitive electronics.

My guess is that your rear lamp fitting is most probably dirty/corroded. They are a poorly sealed item.

The rear twin filament bulbs are a common-or-garden P25-2 / 12 v / 5...21 W. No need to pay BuMW prices, at all.

I bought mine in a Peugeot garage in France. I say bought, the mechanic simply handed it to me from a scruffy box on the shelf.
