Hi All, im planning a trip with my son as pillion to Hotel-Enzian in landeck Austria (never been before) leaving Hull for Zeebrugge on Friday the 17th, then planning on taking 2 days to get to Landeck, spending 4 days at the hotel then making our way back to Zeebrugge for Saturday the 25th ferry home, as anyone got any route suggestions and suggested places for overnight stop over both ways.
Thanks

Klaus will more than likely lend you a route book for a day or two

If you have a garmin gps send us a pm with your email address and I will mark you a route or ten
or give me a call and I will talk you through them - and other places to visit locally-ish have a map handy

You picked a great place to stay! :thumb

I'd suggest considering a first night not too far from the ferry in case you dont get much sleep on the way over. Cochem on the Mosel is my favourite for the first night, or Bacharach slightly further south is good too, then you can easily make Landeck in a oner the next day or split it if you prefer.
Garmin rout available here too if you want it.

ps, if you're taking the A7 be warned it suddenly stops dead before the Austrian border and it can be really confusing finding your way from there :blast

Brilliant hotel, we stayed there last year on the way back from Slovakia. Just rang up after doing the Stelvio and booked in. They were very helpfull, rooms were great, beer was cold and the food delicious.

Enjoy:thumb2

PS, you're only about a 45 min - 1 hour ride from the Stelvio from the Enzian

Just back from my hols and went the Hull Zeebrugge route. They provide greasy bits of rope to tie the bikes down, and if the bike is at the end then they provide wheel chocks as well.

I used this route going down and it worked well. Zeebrugge, Brussels, Liege and then down through Germany and stopped at Wissembourg. Nice place, close to Germany too. Need to watch out that not all the route past Trier etc is dual carriage way, but it is IMHO more scenic that the alternative that goes through Luxembourg. Need also to watch out for lack of services, there isn't many!

From Wissembourg then got back onto the Autobahn at Karlsruhe and headed East till Ulm then south towards Austria. There are some serious roadworks around Pforzheim, but even when we came back mid-week along that route it still flowed quite well. Rather than using the Fern pass and knowing the A7 wasn't complete, we went over the Oberjoch and Hantennjoch passes. There were serious queues on the Austrian side of the border as their petrol is about €0.30 cheaper than Germany! The end of the Hantennjoch drops you off in Imst.

We then stopped in Oetz which is on the way to the Timmelsjoch.

My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Enzian a few years ago when the 'restaurant' was then a marque in the garden. Got food poisoning on one day after eating salad with mussels in it. Went out on a ride-out with the boss Klaus leading on his KTM. He rode like a loony so the group struggled to stay with him and soon broke up. Riding at speed on narrow, bumpy roads reduced my patient wife to tears.

The hotel does provide an excellent road book of local routes, passes and glaciers. They also have a couple of bikes to rent. We rented a Triumph Tiger for the day - a cracking machine and quite a contrast from our Pan. Made the mistake of trying to cross the nearby border into Switzerland - the ride-out had been across the previous day with no bother - and rented bike on Austrian plates, no docs, no passports (Switzerland ain't in the EEC) and we were turned away. Always carry all of your I/D and driving docs with you when abroad.

Excellent hotel, tremendous scenery, Stelvia not far away, glaciers everywhere. Good holiday. Stayed overnight in Luxembourg City, hotel booked by wife on the Net. Turned out the street was filled with night clubs and strip clubs. Fight in the street outside our hotel bedroom window, Police sirens mean't a spoiled nights sleep.

excellent choice, the enzian is in a fantastic location for plenty of superb routes and a good quality hotel. the food is excellent and the beer isn;t bad either.

this is an excellent website for planning routes round the alps, but as mentioned by others the road book at the hotel will be all you need.

Hi, can anyone reccomend a good countryside type hotel near Baden Baden for a stopover on the way down to Landeck.

Stop in BADEN BADEN its a great place for a night, lots of hotels, you should not have any trouble finding a room.:thumb

Weather should improve as well, at the moment its raining a lot, but the weekend is supposed to get drier, but a bit colder and not as humid, so it should be fine biking weather. Have fun.

The tourist offices in German towns are generally very helpful, especially if you turn up about 4pm. Rural guesthouses are usually easy to find - just look for the "zimmer frei" signs. They are usually quite cheap and perfectly adequate for 1 night.

If you think you may get to your stop later then pre-booking makes things easier.

I'm off to the Enzian in early September. I'm thinking of spending a night in the northern part of the Black Forest or Baden Baden on the return leg.

I have this hotel in central Baden Baden as a possibility

It is highly rated on Tripadvisor so you may find it is fully booked at such short notice.

Hi everyone

Been back a week from the Enzian and can recomend it to anyone who fancies going top marks all round, we stopped over in Baden Baden on the way down and stopped over at Kaiserslautern on the way back, great roads and passes near the Enzian and found a gem of a road the B48 on the way to Kaiserslautern. also called in at Vianden in Luxembourg on the way home very nice little town, thanks again to everyone who gave advice before our trip.:thumb2
