Looking at purchasing a laptop.

I need it to browse the web, it must have wireless so I can connect it to my home wireless system. It wont be used outside the home, must be able to run Mapsource for my Garmin GPS......and that's about it for basic requirements.

I'd prefer a Windows XP operating system so happy to look at used machines.

Anybody got any ideas as to what might suit me best?

Cheers

Steve

The likelyhood of getting a new laptop with XP will be quite slim now. However, the new system isn't as bad as some make out, at least I've had no problems in the several months I've owned a new laptop. Personally, I wouldn't buy a used machine and depending on your requirement, a new one shouldn't be that expensive anyway. Plus with the 'credit crunch', even the likes of PC World are willing to do deals. ;)

As for choice of machine, I went with Acer. So far....:thumb2

Dell Vostro at a good price here.
Discussed at length here.
I bought a Vostro running Vista in January and was going to change over to XP, but I find for what I need it to do, its fine.
Rarely use the desktop at home now as the laptop is just so handy.

Thanks for the info.
Had a private chat with Judge and he pointed me towards a Dell Inspiron 1525 which looks like it'll suit my needs so I pick it up Wednesday.
Steve.
