Can anyone recommend somewhere to get my laptop serviced and repaired. It's developed a few problems during my recent trip, probably needs the cooling fans replaced, CR ROM drive repaired and generally getting the sand and dust out of it. Does anyone know of someone who can do this reliably, without ripping me off?

Mike:)

Hi Mike

Given the incredible variability of repairers, I'd be tempted to get a personal recommendation from an AdvRider member near wherever the heck you are at present!
After that, it'll be a crapshoot. Probably the biggest chain is CompUsa - they have over 220 stores, so you should find one somewhere near you. Can't vouch for them on service (their sales people are VERY variable!), but as a big organisation, you should have some comeback if things go pear shaped. Check out their website and I think you'll find a fixed price service plan - might be a good way to go.
Cheers (and by that I mean, "Have a Sierra Nevada"!).!

Back in misty old Lincolnshire, I'm afraid, Paul - any ideas for a UK repairer?

Mike:)

Mike, I was a laptop engineer in a previous life, Siemens & Toshiba, the Time ones are badged acer's I think and altough adequate there is no point in trying to fix it, drop it and claim on the insurance, throw it away and get the Aldi one £999.99 , its made by Compal in Japan and is the dog's dangley's.
