My Laptop screen has is now so dim I have too strain my eyes to see it.

It keeps making a mechanical knocking noise sometimes  and it occasionally shuts down giving me a black screen saying no operating system found.

Its working ok at the mo but give it a hour and the knocking will be back.

Its a samsung V25.

Any ideas? :nenau

I don't think the knocking sound and dim screen are connected.

The knocking could be from your HDD which would go hand in hand with your system shutting down possibly.

The invertor card may be on its way out which is a common fault for dim screens, or at worse you may need a new screen.

How old is the laptop?

To replace an invertor card and or screen could cost you mega bucks in parts alone let alone labour.

You might be cheaper to invest in a new machine.

Just as an example to replace a card and screen on a IBM laptop would be in excess of £400

Screen is very dim, Lap Top is 4 years + old.

Took your advice and ordered a new one.....gulp!

Thanks anyway. :thumb

I would've done the same thing mate, as for your old laptop why don't you stick it on ebay for spares, just take the HDD drive out of it for safety.

You never know you might get £40 or £50 for it.

Might just do that thanks. :thumb

I had a HDD fail on a laptop, unfortunately - it didn't run long enough to archive e-mails, only documents etc.

Copy all your files now, in case the HDD fails.
