If there's one item from the ADV I would like it's the large fuel tank.

I would be interested to know what my options are -

metal or plastic ?

who makes 'em ?

how much ?

I think the 32 litre one is enough, don't think I want the giant 41 litre jobbie.

will the fuel gauge still work

are they easy to fit

any other mods required to make it fit

I've just put a large tank on my GS, I bought a damaged Adv tank (30ltrs) and had it resprayed (Manderine) and new badges. The bike had 292 miles showing on the clock and and had used 24.5 ltrs so over 300mls is a real possibility. I fitted QD fuel disconnects at the same time.

The tank fits straight on with the pump filter and guage sender from the your std bike (The guage is not perfect but once you are used to the light coming on at about 270mls noing there is about 7 ltrs still in there its ok,an adv guage sender is about £150+vat) you will need a cross over pipe which helps to empty the lobes but its only a piece of feul hose and some clamps.

The job is no more difficult than changing the fuel filter.

I got my tank from of the bb by putting a wanted note on, but they come up on ebay, southport Superbikes had one from a damaged bike so other dealers may have them laying around.

Squid: yeah - the 41 litre jobbie might be fun, but having looked at the touratech website I fear this may be one of the shorter conversations with my wife:

Me: Darling, you're looking particularly beautiful this morning
Her: What do you want you scheming bar-steward
Me: Nothing - you think I only compliment you when I want something
Her: So what is it this time
Me: I need a bigger petrol tank for the bike
Her: Why ?
Me: So I can carry more fuel
Her: How much ?
Me: 41 litres
Her: You know what I'm talking about - how much ?
Me: £777 + shipping + painting
Her: You are out of your mind
Me: So that's a "yes" is it ?
Her: If you buy that tank you will be sleeping in the garden for 6 months with no conjugals.
Me: Ah.......
Her: In addition to which you may be sleeping in the garden with no testicles.
Me: Oh.

i agree. it's a complete rip. having covered 18000 miles in ten months, you'd have thought i would have considered the large tank option. i did; for all of the ten seconds it took me to work out how much fuel around £1000 would buy me. suddenly that long hankered after trip to ulan bator seemed a lot closer.....

save your money and go riding instead. a jerrican lashed to the back will save your arse if you really ARE out in the bhundu.

just as a matter of interest: how many people out there have got bigger tanks, and how many REALLY use them?
