Has anyone come up with a solution to stop the mud and spray hitting the front of the engine on 1150's. I had a fender extender fitted on the old bike but this had very little effect. Having just ridden through the last few days of rain with nothing on the front mudguard, the engine looks as though I have been off roading. I am sure I saw someone with quite a substantial rubber extender fitted, but can't remember who and where. I definately won't be fitting one of the plastic screw on extenders again cos they don't extend far enough. Can anyone help.
PS it looks even worse when you have a black engine :(

I bolted on a large 6x8inch mudflap to the bottom of the front mudguard which seems to do the job.

Me too - bolted a large rubber mudflap on to bottom of plastic fender extender - result double the protection and CLEAN bike.
Glad I went for a silver engine again - thought the black finish would be a 'tart' to clean.

engine guards

I tried the same extender but found it useless. I have now fabricated an eXtension to the standard bash plate that bolts to the front lip of the bash plate and extends upwards as far as the alternator cover on the front of the block. I have drilled a series of 20mm holes in it, out of the direct firing line and it has made no difference to the cooling of the engine as its still five bars on the RID. Even sprayed it the same colour as the bike so its sorted. As soon as I can get a camera I wilL take some pics to forward. Its made of 2.5mm alloy plate.

how about cleaning

surely the simple answer is to clean the bike. and if you are offended by an unsightly dirty engine, a home made crud catcher is just as unpalatable????????????????????????

yet again the devils advocate and man with a dirty engine.
