Decided I would see the year out in style, so had a run down The Borders.

My poor little Nikon Coolpix is now suffering from damp - I guess I need an Oonyack-style waterproof housing.

Weather wasn't too bad first thing, but by the time I left the wind was howling and the rain was persisting down (well, not exactly down - more like sideways).

First stop was at Harperrig Reservoir on the A70 heading for Carnwath, wind so strong I had to lean against a fence post to try to steady the camera.

Next stop was at the Crook Inn and yes, it really is closed. The original picture shows sheets of rain sweeping the hillside - probably doesn't come out in the reduced definition version.

Then on to Tweedsmuir and a diversion along the single track road past Talla and Megget Reservoirs. The climb up the hillside was 'interesting' in the wind.

I went through a large 'puddle' and it almost put me over the screen - I had water up the inside of the fairing and steam everywhere. The old R80 kept going though. It just shows, you cant judge the depth from the surface !

Talla had white horses on it, the pictires are of Megget.

Last Rideout of the Year - 3:

Decided I would see the year out in style, so had a run down The Borders.

Lunch was at the Tibbie Shiels Inn at St. Mary's Loch, then back along the A708 to Moffat. That is in a very picturesque steep-sided valley with the Moffat Water running through it.

After that it was back to the A701 and across to the B7076 to Abington, then the A73 and A70 to Kirknewton and across to Kirkliston.

181 miles in all and I was wet through. Good to get out though, regardless of the weather.

Happy New Year to you all, here's looking forward to better weather.

Voyager.

Hi Voyager, just been plotting your route on the map,a ken the bottom loop via Talla n Meggets, looks very cold n wet,you must have the mother in law stopping! All the best Aldy

The route past St Mary's Loch and on down to Moffat is one of my favourites, in better weather though.

Happy New Year and I hope to 'catch up' with you on more rideouts this year.
