Latest Map Updates 2012.1 Too Big

Trying to download the latest version of Maps 2012.1 to my Nav 3 but it says it's too big for device for full coverage, so try just western europe and it is still too big.

So I try and try and choose a map set and load that just doing western europe without sweden/norway and finland and that is way too big.

I noticed that this latest map set has 2D and P included so am I missing something or has Garmin made the mapsets so big they no longer fit?

I haven't downloaded it yet but I take it that you mean 3D? If so, that's just for displaying buildings and landmarks on compatible units, so isn't relevant to your Nav III. Can you opt not to send the 3D map to the unit?

Nope can't deselect it and it does say 2D + P have sent a email to Garmin but was hoping someone here had already downloaded and installed on here.

Don't really want to "upgrade" to the latest units as they do not seem as reliable as the older ones.

I have the same problem on my 2820.

You have to download the maps to your Computer and then choose a series of individual map sectors to "transfer" from the PC to the Nav III.

I was struggling a bit with space and running out of time before an outing - so just have UK and France on at the current time. Need to have a further play-around soon.

The ever-increasing space required is what will kill the 2820 for me in the end. Plus it is so slow to pick up satellites compared to the more modern units.
