Came back from Spain (in car) at the weekend without a return booked from Calais on Sunday. Couldn't get a crossing with P&O so daughter in UK did the interweb thing and got us on the 16.15 Boulogne to Dover with LD Lines (£35).

Very impressed with ferry accomodations, far better than the cattle truck P&O stuff. Good cafe and clean toilets at terminal and another plus is that there's a good chance you are parked under cover whilst waiting for boarding.

Evidently they took over the Speedferries routes?

We use them about 6 times a year fron Portsmouth to Le Havre. They are cheap, cheerful and just the job. Cabins are always full by the time we book but we use the sleeper seats which are much cheaper and are very comfortable. Recommended!

Big plus one from me too. We regularly use the LD Lines overnight ferry from Portsmouth to LeHavre. Comfortable and plenty of room. We always book the sleeper seats which are comforable - but you will need earplugs. We always seem to be alongside a coachful of senior citizens and the snoring can be a bit of a nuisance.

But you get into Lehavre at about 8.30am - so get a full day's riding in. And it's only about 20 minutes from Honfleur the most fantastic stop for coffee:)

Ive used the Portsmouth to Le Havre a few times its good for week ends you get on Friday night land Saturday morning. You can spend the weekend in northern France get back on the ferrie Sunday after noon and be home in the evening. So you dont use any holiday time from work. Im booked on it in May we got a cabin but had to book earley.

Ye used them a few times, even the deck lads helped us to strap down bikes, nice touch that, still have a "held booking"with them at the moment must sort out a trip soon reccommend them..

Rosslare - Le Havre: caution

Agree totally with everyone's comments about clean and comfortable accommodation and value for money. However, would just add a note of caution if anyone might be considering using LD Lines' Rosslare to Le Havre service. We did in November. It is a 20 hour crossing and, being principally a truckers' route, there is very little to keep one amused for that length of trip. The food was good and reasonably priced, but the restaurant was closed except for very short windows around meal times. Otherwise, there was a tiny bar, a cinema, a couple of fruit machines, and a "duty free" kiosk that never seemed to be open. Like most other people on board, we spent the majority of time in our cabin ...

Portsmouth-Le Havre

Used them last year for Normandy beaches and again in June coming, sailing times are good, had nice trundle of about 200miles to Portsmouth, a kip overnight and arrive fresh next morning. Definately good value, best to book as early as poss as prices seem to rise nearer your departure date.:bounce1
