Hi My darling husband is taking me to France in July to watch the tour, which will be coolest leather or textile ? It will be the first time we have been to the sun in bike gear, any ladies or men out there with any advice please. thank you Karen:Motomartin

Leather trousers with the gortex laminate I use them all year round and textile top again gortex laminate I can't vouch for them in France but they work for me on the hottest Irish weather. JJH

On the continent last year in July and it was between 31 and 39 degrees for 14 days , definitely textile as it was far too hot for leathers

You don't say which stage of the tour you'll be watching. Different parts of France, different climates. We're in the Pyrenees, for instance. Same latitude as St. Tropez, but much more bearable temperatures.

I tend to wear leather trousers and textile jacket. However, my leather trousers do have textile sections and a light mesh lining, so may be cooler than others.

I find a wicking layer underneath whatever you choose helps.

Last year I wore leather trousers but got fed up with faffing about with overtrousers when it rained.

This year I'll wear the textile with goretex and a merino wool base layer.
