led bulbs

hi looking to improve headlight -have the +50 or whatever bulbs and they have blown again so have read a few threads on the led but you guys seem to have overheating probs with them -am i best with hid ?? or any advice on a good solution tnx

I got fed up replacing expensive bulbs, too.
I'm using HID and like it. Light output is supposed to be around three times improved. Turns night into day!
Downside is the warm up time for the high beam when first powered up.
Think some are getting good results with LED's but still a bit of bodging required so early days.

Talk to Les on here I didn't have warm up problems and for country lanes HID is the answer

Got a set of HIDs from Les at Hid50 - fast ballast for full beam works a treat and light is excellent - best performance mod you can fit! (If it's dark)

I have Les's full kit fitted, including the fast ballast for main beam. In my opinion there is still a delay in reaching full output on main beam, it does not have the immediacy of a halogen bulb.

Maybe should clarify for tezz's benefit.
I use Les's kit as well and it's great. When you first power up the high beam, it takes a few seconds to reach full intensity.
Once lit, and if, say, dipping for an oncoming car, it takes very little time to come back again.
I think mine might have the older starters, so the newer type may be quicker. Of course, the dip is on constantly.
Recommended.

thanks to all for info- iwill get in touch with les and see what help he can offer -i do fancy the idea of led but apreciate they are not yet fully up to speed

Les does a kit specifically designed for the GS, no farting about cutting holes in headlamp covers etc, and he also does a bracket for mounting the ballasts.
