Anyone ridden in total darkness with the LED headlamp?

Rode last week as dusk was falling and it did not seem to show itself on the Tarmac as much as car headlamps and I was wondering if it is the white light has more effect in darkness?

Main beam seemed to illuminate road signs miles away, even though it seemed to have little effect on road illumination at dusk light levels.

I took mine for a night ride to get an idea of the lights. Observation is the cars coming towards me think the light is on high beam when on low. Light does not seem as intense but does light the road. I'd agree with your hi beam response, I found on high the reflection from road signs was almost blinding.

Not the sort of light I'd do high speed with on Aussie roads at night. For cornering the beam seems to be cut off that make cornering a bit of a stab in the dark.

What I do notice is that in daylight driving the bike is very noticable, I had a rider tell me yesterday that when he saw me going up the pass, as he was going down ,he decided that I was on a new GS, he was thinking of buying and turned around and met me at the Cafe to discuss.

I'm thinking of getting the Led side lights, just for getting attention on the road, I don't ride at night , or intend to , but do like to have other traffic notice me.

The LED headlight is absolutely awesome! I had pretty much given up riding at night because I struggle to see the road clearly enough.

My first ride in real darkness was an eye opener. I had intended riding two miles from my local club to my home, instead I did about 20 miles. The light is phenomenal, especially on dip which is the one that really matters.

As I was coming up behind cars the light of their headlamps looked orange, more like big tail lights. The daylight type light of the LED really makes a big difference, for me at least.

I really can't see why you would need any additional lights.

The LED head light is the best motorcycle head light I've ever used. It is bright, focused and a has a very pronounced cut-off on low beam.

Only problem was that head light was pointing down too much: difficult to see anything on low beam. Under the headlight is an adjustment knob to raise/lower headlight. Problem solved.

BMW have got this right.:beerjug:
